PC games for all ages?
You can find PC game software for people of all ages as long as they have the ability to use a computer and understand basic directions. Even young children can enjoy a gaming experience of their own. From pocket PC software games to your average CDs, you can discover a range of games to suit people of any age or gender.
Games Designed Different for Age Groups and GendersVideo game creators have created a plethora of game PC software for people of almost any age group and can be summarized as such:
- For children ages three to five, favorite television and movie characters abound. You can find games for Spongebob Squarepants, Bob the Builder, Thomas the Tank Engine, and other beloved characters. These PC games offer specialized game play that is educational (e.g., involving letters and numbers) relatively simple (while offering varying levels of difficulty) and full of visual cues for children unable or learning to read.
- For children ages five to ten, games often include increased amounts of interactive features. Games at this level may be designed for entertainment, for education, or for a combination of the two. Many games deal with math or science, software for the artist, video game software, puzzle games, and games that allow interactive game play with other children across the world. Game covers often display a targeted age range (e.g., "ages 5-8") or rating to inform parents whether the material is appropriate for their children.
- Games for teenagers often require
increased parent supervision as they may contain violence, sex, or drug references. As with the last age group, PC games typically feature ratings (e.g., "T" for teen) based on amount of possibly offensive material. Parents should carefully monitor games before purchasing them for their teenagers to ensure that the game meets the parents' standards. Teens can find a variety of games from educational activities to action or adventure games.
- Games designed for young adults may include sports games, action or adventure games, games based on movies, educational or brainteaser software, and even a package of games (e.g., card games, puzzle games). Studies have shown that many men and women continue to play PC games to relieve stress and wind down at the end of the day. Somewhat surprisingly, women often play as much as men. So if you've got a particular interest, do a quick internet search and see if you can find a relevant game. Chances are good that it will not take you
long to find one.
Although game creators have often ignored females in the production of games, many games have had plenty of crossover appeal (e.g., The Sims, traditional board games, etc.). Although these games have been more popular with women, each individual is different. As noted earlier, there is likely a game out there that matched your interests. If you take some time to do some research, then you should be able to find a game that suits your needs.Statistics Involving Age and Gender The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) recently conducted a 2006 Gaming Technology study that suggests that adults spend more time playing console or PC games than teenagers. Specifically, about 1/3 of adults spend more than 10 hours per week playing games while only eleven percent of teens do so. Among teenagers, more teens ages 12 to 14 play console and PC games than teens ages 15 to 17. The CEA's study also reveal that PC games in particular have found a large fellowship among adults.
The greatest number of women gamers resides in the 25 to 34 age group. In fact, female gamers outnumber male gamers in this particular age group. PC Gaming AddictionAlthough addiction affects only a small percentage of the gaming population, it can be an extremely significant and crippling issue for those affected. People who spend enough time playing a game (i.e., long hours at a time) can achieve what's referred to as "meditative concentration" which is reported as a highly pleasurable state of mind. PC games should be approached as any other activity that presents the possible danger of addiction. Keep track of how long you or your children play and designate time limits for gameplay.Creating Your Own Gaming Experience
Even if you are unable to find a game that meets your needs, you can purchase software that allows you to design your own games. Programs such as Game Editor allow you to make your own unique game for the PC, cell phone, or other electronic devices. They are often
compatible with multiple platforms and offer a wide variety of features. Once you have created your own games, you can display them on your own website or other websites that display collections of amateur games.
Whether you're looking for pocket PC software games, PC game burning software, PC game copying software, or PC game making software, you have a wide variety of games and sellers to choose from. You can determine which PC game software is right for you or your family by exercising caution and following the guidelines above.
